Marshall Simonds Middle School, Burlington, MA

  • Total Area: 152,000 square feet
  • Construction Manager At Risk: CTA Construction Co., Inc.
  • Project Type: Addition and Renovation (In Progress)

This 900-student middle school was originally designed in the 1950s as the Burlington Senior High School and has seen very few changes over the years. A 33,000 square foot addition will be made to the front courtyard to serve as a main entrance, alleviating safety concerns over mixed bus and pedestrian traffic issues. New cross-connecting glass corridors will dramatically improve student circulation and allow direct access between the auditorium, cafeteria and main classroom wing, which has not functioned well since the building was first commissioned. Security issues will be addressed by installing pass card entrance locks which require student and staff identification for access. These additions and more will create a much more significant street presence, a definitive main entrance, better circulation and ample handicapped parking in direct proximity of the building.

The projected completion for this project is 2013.
