INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION FACILITY
Fitchburg, MA

The Montachusett Regional Transit Authority called on KBA to design a new transportation center for the City of Fitchburg and neighboring communities. The tight requirements – only 13,000 square feet of building space was budgeted – necessitated an innovative design featuring connected “pods” serving various transportation services.

The building – adjacent to the MBTA commuter rail line - houses a two-story atrium, ticket area, café, waiting room, taxi stand, newsstand and public restrooms. The central concourse serves as a berthing area for the regional bus fleet. The entire building is handicapped accessible.
